Red Moon Takes a Dip
Red Moon Takes a Dip
Acrylic, Ink, and Pastel hand-painted by Catrina Lloyd
Lately, Catrina has been exploring a more fluid approach to applying paint.
Using more heavily diluted pigments to create translucent layered washes. The organic nature of the diluted paint helps Catrina create her atmospheric abstract scapes, inspired by the natural West Coast elements of her beautiful surroundings in Muriwai. These works have come from Catrina's love of Maukatia/Maori Bay, and in particular, the high perspective she gets from around the Gannet colony. I always feel like I’m about to join the gannets and fly across the ocean and through the skyscapes. It is a special place for me where I can really stop and connect to myself and the world.
After the damage of Cyclone Gabrielle the Gannet colony has been closed and I miss it dearly. I think that's why it comes through in these works.
