MANY MOONS
MANY MOONS
by Karen Walters
'Many Moons’ represents the ebb and flow of significant moments within the revolution of one’s life journey. Many moons have passed and a place of knowing has been reached. It encompasses the notions of embracing change, finding new direction, stepping out of the comfort zone and riding the waves of learning. I have used the koru form to symbolise new adventures, growth, strength and peace while incorporating the wave motif as the waka cuts through the water, to enforce the idea of travel and journey. ‘Many Moons’ has been sculpted out of Rimu that was rescued and revived from the Christchurch quakes, the strength and resilience of this glorious timber with its own historical journey further compliments the meaning behind this piece
