“In the whole scheme of things everything you do is just a drop in the ocean but every drop in the ocean still has an effect. ‘Drop in the Ocean’ commands attention, she is large, layered, and vibrating on the wall with her rippling depth of form and shadows. She is sculpted from the most exquisite swamp kauri too - which dares not to go unnoticed. The Kauri was a naturally fallen tree from the Northland region of NZ. It was dug out of the ground and then cut into slabs and shed stored for 30 years. It is incredibly rare and high-quality hardwood timber. It would have once been a majestic tree until it fell to the ground in a violent storm, it then became ‘cocooned’ in the earth for 100’s (possibly 1000’s) of years until it was resurrected and slowly seasoned over 30 years. I then received the honor of getting it into my hands to sculpt with and turn into a majestic form, that pays homage to its heritage and conveys a message of protection, integrity, and respect.”
