Liz Sharek

Clay is such a lovely medium to work with, and the process is so much easier. It’s playful–you can start something and if it’s not working, it’s no big deal. I still love glass and always will, but for now this is where it’s at for me.

WE LOVE…

That Liz is a true local, and a talent that we are honoured to have at Artform. Her constant strive to pursue a new direction and technique means the work is for ever-changing, albeit the Liz Sharek signature is visible to those who know her well. ARTFORM.

Liz moved to New Zealand over 30 years ago from London to work as a physiotherapist but as  her interest in object making became more apparent she enrolled as a full time student in  the Craft and Design course at UNITEC.

Her work has developed from this craft-based perspective of her training to a more  conceptual focus.

Her was producing kiln formed contemporary glass from my home-based studio in Auckland  from the mid-90s. She has now extended her material practice to a number of different  media, particularly clay.

She has exhibited widely in New Zealand and Overseas and her work is represented in a  number of public collections including that of Te Papa (The National Museum of New  Zealand) in Wellington and The Ebletoft Glass Museum in Denmark.

In 2008 Liz graduated with Masters Degree in Art and Design from AUT (Auckland University  of Technology). Since then she has been repositioning her practice with a move from the  more formal considerations of the earlier work to more a contextual focus.

Liz now lives and works in Matakana, just north of Auckland, in a house and workshop that  she had built about 6 years ago.
