My work is all hand made with very low-tech tools and unlike a lot of “hand made” jewellery my work involves no factory castings.
As my pieces are chunky and roughly forged using hammers I tend toward pure silver with it’s easy workability and the fact that it does not tarnish, combined with a surface peening to add a little sparkle to your life.

Justin lives locally in Kaiwaka. After Initially growing up around the Devonport peninsula, Justin’s interest in the arts started at a young age, where he was particularly fascinated with Maori Taonga, greenstone and bone carving and the different methods of binding and fastening these works. Justin moved to Golden Bay Nelson in his 20’s where he trained in bone carving with the late master carver Chris Bone. He ventured into oil painting, ceramics and screen printing before coming across silversmithing 15 odd years ago where he found his niche. “It’s a wonderful metal. It suits my favoured style of hammering to create a rough beaten look. I can use simple, ancient processes that I hope have a real presence about them. Some of his works conjure up images of Maori pa sites, others reference to Greenstone tools. Justin likes to make work that is easy to wear while being full of character.
